Enhanced Oil Recovery

The Danish oil fields in the North Sea have reached a level where secondary recovery methods, mainly water injection, are the main driving force behind today’s oil production.

When the secondary recovery methods, particularly water injection, are no longer profitable, up to 70% of the oil discovered may still be left in the fields.

This is why the Danish North Sea Fund, the Danish Energy Agency and Maersk Oil and Gas have together initiated an independent study of experiences with enhanced oil recovery.

This job was given to researchers from the University of Austin in Texas, who have prepared a report in which, on the basis of global experience, they assess whether there are methods today which could be used in the Danish part of the North Sea.

The report can be downloaded from this website.
